Why complete high school?

Life is better with high school completion!

You've likely heard that it's important to graduate... it's good for you, your family and your community.

But did you know that a person with a high school education will earn more, have better health and stronger personal relationships than someone who does not complete high school?

Completing high school is the first step. High school courses will give you the skills and background you need to succeed. You might not need or want post-secondary education, though - and that's ok. Finishing some or all of your high school credits is usually required for many jobs or training in the trades.

So "why complete high school" will depend on what you want to do in your future!

Pathways to Completion

There are lots of ways to get high school credits. What you need and how you do it depends on what you want to do.

For most jobs in Alberta, you need a minimum of a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma. To be accepted into many post-secondary programs, you need specific high school or high school equivalent courses.

I want to go back!

You're never too old to complete high school - even if you've been out of the classroom for a while. You have lots of options - take high school courses through upgrading, an online program or take the GED test.

If you don't know which courses you have completed, contact Alberta Education to get a copy of your "Statement of Courses and Marks" or an official "High School Transcript" so you can figure out what you still need to complete high school.
